VALE- NORM HOLLAND

Norm Holland, one of the most special people ever to grace NZ Racing passed away recently, aged 90 with his family by his side . A three time champion jockey in a riding career spanning 35 years and he once calculated that about 3 of those years were spent in hospital with riding injuries. He later became jockey liaison officer at the Auckland Racing club and a permanent fixture and fix it man around the parade ring and jockeys room. Whilst he never rode the winner of an Auckland Cup he attended over 70 runnings of the event either in or out of the saddle. In his role at the ARC he personified the word "dapper" and always had a firm handshake for the men and a hug and peck for the ladies. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. RIP Norm.
